1 ICE agent shot, 3 cops wounded in Calif. shooting

Four law enforcement officers were shot during a gang sweep in a Sacremento suburb Friday night, authorities said.

Dozens of officers were involved in the attempt to capture a man identified by law enforcement officials as Sammy Duran, 23, who was pinned down in a house in Roseville, Calif.

An agent for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was shot in the leg shortly after 3 p.m., according to a statement released by authorities. He was stable and alert as he was being taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, the agency said.

Three Roseville police officers were wounded; one was shot in the shoulder, while another two were injured by shrapnel, authorities said.

One officer is in serious condition, while the other two are listed as stable.

The incident created scenes of panic and chaos in a typically quiet middle class suburb of about 120,000. Walstad described multiple shooting sites as the suspect tried to escape a swarm of descending law enforcement agents, and reporters on the scene described hearing several volleys of gunfire.

Roseville police Lt. Cal Walstad said Duran was believed to be carrying an "assault-type weapon."
