BREAKING NEWS: Central Connecticut State University on lockdown over report of suspicious person

Police officers are responding to a report of a suspicious person at Central Connecticut State University.


The campus in New Britain was locked down Monday and students were urged to remain indoors and away from windows.Lt. J. Paul Vance, a state police spokesman, says university police asked for assistance related to a report of a suspicious person.


University spokesman Mark McLaughlin says police urged officials to alert everyone on campus to get inside. He says the emergency did not appear to be related to a shooting.


Several police cars are at the campus. More than 12,000 students attend the university, which has a 182-acre campus.


New Britain police did not immediately respond to requests for information, and no further details were immediately available.
