There were no hijinks for Bart after school on Sunday's episode of "The Simpsons."
There was no gag when Bart spent detention in front of the class chalkboard at the beginning of Sunday's new episode of "The Simpsons." Instead, the troublemaker wrote a simple, sad message during the opener, "We'll really miss you Mrs. K."
The note was in honor of star Marcia Wallace, who died at age 70 on Oct. 25. She had voiced bitter teacher Edna Krabappel since January 1990. The actress had also played Carol Kester on "The Bob Newhart Show" from 1972 to 1978.
Ahead of the new episode, Fox re-aired the 2011 episode titled "The Ned-Liest Catch," which featured the Mrs. K character prominently. "Ned-Liest" marked the beginning of Edna and Simpsons' neighbor Ned Flanders' relationship. The two began dating in this episode, and later married. Prior to the episode, Edna was known not only for her abrasive laugh, but also for being unlucky in love and dating many of Springfield's men.
Fans took to Twitter after the chalkboard message to share their thoughts.
"The Simpsons" airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
